Adidas was founded in 1920, by Adolf (nicknamed Adi) Dassler, aged just 20, with a single vision - to offer all athletes superlative footwear for their chosen discipline. This Adidas principle remains his heritage. A passionate athlete, always close to participants, Adi saw his shoes at major Olympic events; canvas in 1928; spikes (worn by US sprinter Jesse Owens) in 1936; a fresh start, after WWII, with canvas/ rubber and the Adidas name in 1948; then the famous 3-stripes. Adidas screw-in stud boots, worn by the 1954 German World Cup victors, secured Adidas as world player. Adidas still specialises in innovative products for top athletes in all disciplines, with over 700 Adidas patents demonstrating Adidas' enduring pursuit of perfection.
