Real Genuine UGG® Australia Boots and “Ugg Boots”
How can you tell fake “Uggs” from Genuine UGG® Australia Boots? Or when is an Ugg not an UGG? To add to the confusion “Ugg” is a word in general use now for a certain style of Australian Sheepskin boot. So merchants selling products as “Ugg Boots” mostly aren’t selling legitimate UGG® Australia Boots (a Deckers Corporation brand). An annoying number of “Ugg” retailers bring out models that look like UGG Australia boots and have similar names.
My feeling is that though it might not be technically illegal, it is certainly very misleading, and if the purpose is to dupe customers into thinking they’re buying the legit and genuine article when they’re not, then it’s totally wrong. Lots of customers have been duped by the offer of bargain “Ugg boots” and lots are really confused by what’s out there.
UPDATE: Be sure to read my footnote regarding websites with UGG in the name – its at the bottom of this post. NO SITE with the term ‘ugg’ in the domain name sells legit UGG® Australia boots apart from uggaustralia.com the official site.
So how do you tell a retailer is selling genuine UGG® Australia Boots? Lets deal with a couple of issues first.
“Australian Ugg Boots” are not UGG® Australia products
Let’s first clear up one thing – the generic Australian makers of “Ugg” Sheepskin boots, often trading with websites ending in .au and registered to Australian Companies. These guys are generally okay and sell, in the main, good quality sheepskin boots – they often describe their boots as “100% Australian made Uggs”, “Australian Ugg Boots” and the more responsible ones specifically dissociate themselves from UGG® Australia and Deckers Outdoor (the brand owner) in the footer or on the About Us page so customers don’t get confused. These guys have been selling these types of sheepskin “Ugg boots” for years and as long as people understand these products are NOT the UGG Australia® brand then its fine in my book.
Sellers of Chinese UGG fakes/copies are not selling UGG® Australia products
This is where UGG buyers can get seriously stung and have been (see all the responses below). There are a HUGE number of websites cropping up on the Google Adwords system (Googles “sponsored” ads) and in the search results offering UGG Boots that are in fact low quality fakes/copies of UGG® Australia boots.
These websites do nothing to dissociate themselves from UGG® Australia and deliberately set out to trick people into thinking they are buying genuine UGG® Australia products when in fact they are cheaply-made, low quality Chinese fakes shipped direct from a counterfeiting factory in China. Don’t fall for the “factory direct Ugg boots” line or “buy Ugg boots direct from the manufacturer” – they are all bywords for FAKE.
Furthermore there are many many cases of customers being overcharged on their credit card, being asked to pay twice, not receiving any product or receiving incorrect colours and sizes. Packages coming from China are often stopped in Customs – some are seized as brand fakes and for others the recipient will need to pay import duty. All a shock if a customer thinks they are buying legit UGG® Australia boots.
As we have seen in the stories below, after sales service is nonexistent and returns, exchanges and refunds are near impossible – often the websites even demand a hefty restocking fee! Plus you have to pay for your own courier service to China. All in all a total nightmare if you’re stuck with these nasty (and often very smelly) copies and a big hole in your bank balance. These chinese websites only aim is to make money quickly – they are run by people who have no interest in serving customers – in most cases they are breaking UK and US law and many are run by criminal gangs.
If you e-mail them and ask if their boots are genuine of course they will say yes and then spend ages and ages e-mailing nice messages, giving money off offers, freebies etc. until you pay (normally by Paypal) and in a good proportion of cases thats the last you’ll ever hear from them. Often the website closes down within a few days and just like that – you’ve been scammed. Be aware that a whole month’s salary in china can be than the cost of one pair of these fake boots! So its a massively luctrative scam for them.
The intention of this article is to warn customers that these websites are out there in google, yahoo, msn and other search engine search results offering fake products and customers should AVOID them. I have a list of these fake UGG websites at the end of this article which I will maintain as we discover new sites. If the website is on the list my strong advice is to AVOID.
So how can I spot a fake UGG website?
Here is my checklist from all we have found out so far:
1) UGG® Australia brand – it might be a really obvious point but it can identify about 80% of fake UGG sites. The simple rule is … if the product is not described as UGG® Australia then it’s not that brand! Do not be tempted by the fancy pictures because they may well be pictures of genuine UGG Australia boots being used – some fake sites have even taken the images directly off UGG® Australia’s main site! The products on these fake sites are made to look like UGG Australia Boots, some are even photographed standing on boxes that appear to have the UGG® Australia logo printed on them and they are not the genuine article at all.
Don’t be fooled by the descriptions either – if you see a product described as “UGG Classic Tall” or “UGG Cardy Boots” it is not the same as the “UGG® Australia Classic Tall” or “UGG® Australia Classic Cardy”.
Lets be clear – a brand is a mark of quality – products that are not of that brand will not be that known quality. This goes for anything you might buy. The brand that most buyers mean when they talk about real/authetic/genuine UGG Boots is UGG® Australia – no other similar sounding name means that brand. The same as you would not expect Kokacola to be genuine Coca-Cola, names like “Australia UGG”, “UGGs Australian”, “100% Australia UGG”, even “Genuine UGG” are often used by the fakers to fool you – they are meant to trick you. Just remember the brand and don’t be tricked!
2) Websites with UGG in the name
In Aug 2009 UGG® Australia issued an explicit conterfeit warning on their official website. To summarise: Any website’s domain name (thats the bit before the .com or .co.uk) that has the three letters ‘ugg’ in it, is not selling UGG® Australia brand. For example the website uggbootsforsale.com is therefore not legit because it has UGG in the domain name.
This nows covers 90% of the sites you might be concerned about however we are not done quite yet some sites are even more shameless and use the legal name UGG® Australia and have a domain name without UGG in it.
3) Do a domain check – So the website does say UGG® Australia or has what appears to be the UGG® Australia logo but I’m still not sure? Next step is to do a simple domain check to find out who registered the domain, in what country and when the domain was registered. Use the website http://www.domaintools.com and type in the domain name into the whois tool. If the registrant is in China (country code CN) or the domain has been created within the last three months then my strong advice is AVOID. These fake sites are often only live for a few weeks so they appear to be very recently created. If the domain is held by a proxy service or c/o a domain regsitrant like networksolutions then my advice is AVOID as this registrant is trying to hide their identity. On a good honest domain regisistry entry you are looking for a persons name or company name, a real local street address with postcode/zip code and local phone number.
4) What are the other identifying features of fake UGG sites?
Only UGG Boots: UGG Australia work only with a select number of online boutiques and high street retailers. All have other designer brands available in their range. If you see only UGG products on the site then that’s a tell tale sign.
Shipment Times: This is a good give-away! Check the shipment times on the FAQs pages. If they cannot offer a quick shipping option like overnight shipping it may indicate the product are being shipped from China.
Support methods: If the website does not offer a local phone number and only offers an input form for support or a simple to set up e-mail account like gmail of yahoo or IM support then AVOID. Legitimate UGG Australia retailers are much more established sites with proper support methods, local contact numbers and local addresses.
Poor English: If some of the text on the FAQs pages and product pages seems a little odd then take that as a warning sign that the creator cannot speak english – a translation programme may have been used to create the text. If it reads a little odd, has odd turn of phrases then that’s a warning.
Cheap Prices: Remember the odd addage – if it sounds too good to be true then it generally is. Put it this way UGG® Australia is a premium brand sold only though major outlets and established websites that you have heard of before. Deckers deliberatly restrict the brand to merchants with a good reputation and the right product mix – getting Authorised status is no cake walk! General rule of thumb for UK buyers – don’t expect pay less than £90 for genuine UGG® Australia adult boots. This is a PREMIUM brand and expect PREMIUM prices – no fire sales, job lots, factory direct deals. Sorry folks but those are the facts.

Are genuine UGG® Australia products now made in China?
Finally a question I’m asked a lot and one that confuses a lot of people especially if they buy UGG boots from a legit high street chain and find a “made in China” label inside. The answer is “YES BUT”. YES UGG® Australia, like Converse, VANs and many other footwear products today, are now made in China BUT under working conditions and quality standards supervised by Deckers. Many branded goods are now assembled in China and many attract brand fakers. Expensive branded goods in short supply will always attract people wanting to make a fast buck with fake product!
There is a BIG difference here between the fakes and real products – Deckers UGG® Australia uses 100% A1 grade Australian Merino wool and each boot is made to the stringent standards that Deckers expects and supervises. This is a common practice with designer goods – they are then shipped to legitimate UGG® Australia retailers worldwide and sold to the public with all the workmanship guarantees and returns options you would expect with a premium brand.
The Chinese rip off sites are an entirely different kettle of fish. They produce inferior UGG® Australia copies which do not use the same quality materials like nylon instead of wool and sheepskin and poor construction methods or standards – which means the products quickly loose shape, rub and fall apart. Occasionaly the boots come in branded boxes and even have a fake version of the care card – but however convincing they might first seem if your package came by courier from China its 100% FAKE product – no exceptions.
Though both are “made in china” they are two totally different products. If nothing else – let’s be clear on two points.
UGG® Australia do not allow their legitimate products to be stocked in China and sold direct to the public.
“UGGs” shipped from China may look legit but they are NOT UGG® Australia products – they are ALL poor quality copies.
If were just about to buy a product and you have googled the website’s name and got to this article then I hope we have saved you from disappointment. It is possible but you will have to register a dispute with Paypal and/or contact your bank.

If real UGG Boots are too expensive for you then my best advice is to at least have a look at similar looking high quality products from EMU Australia, Just Sheepskin, Rocket Dog and Skechers (the Keepsakes and Cunning range is good). UGG Australia are beginning to strike back against the UGG counterfeiters. They have made a specific statement which clarifies the legal terms of use of the ‘UGG’ three letter name. UGG Australia has stated that any site with a website domain name containing the word UGG or one of their model names (like CARDY) does not carry genuine UGG® Australia Boots. Let’s be clear – if you see a website claiming to sell genuine UGG Australia Boots and it has ‘UGG’ in its domain name (the bit before the .com or .co.uk) then it is 100% fake. This covers about 80% of the fake UGG Boots sites we have discovered. As many of you know I’ve been reporting this problem to all possible agencies like trading standards, BBC watchdog in fact anyone who will listen. I’m please to say the Metropolian Police central e-crime unit have taken action against certain sites using “co.uk” domains to falsely represent themselves.

About three weeks ago UGG® Australia announced the new Winter 2010 UGG Boot range and I’ve been watching to see how long it takes for the Chinese sites to start ripping off the new styles. Answer: about 10 days. As we know these copies are going to be poor but even so that’s really frightening if you are a genuine UGG Australia retailer trying to get resonable ranks on Google and make a living.
Anyway I know is very early in the season but I’ve just been trolling the internet (once again) for fake UGG sites and I now have 500 published above. And yes it was super depressing 
As before – anything with a UGG in the domain name is not authentic UGG® Australia product and most are cheap chinese fakes. Wanna give your credit card details to some unknown counterfeiter bod in China? No I thought not – so please check the uggaustralia.co.uk site for genuine retailers or use my Compare tab (top right) and pick UGG Australia from the brand list via the top navigation of this page. We have all the new styles listed.

I have just purchased 2 pairs of Uggs. Classic Tall Boots £58 from uk-ugg-boots.com. I now realise that they are not genuine but I am happy with these because you would never know. Sadly, the same cannot be said for the second pair (Classic Cardy £68) purchased through Uggstore.gg, they are absolute pants. A very bad copy. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS WEBSITE.
Bought 2 pairs of black bailey button boots from UGGrain.com for $300.24 (paid through PayPal, CIBC said not to worry, Paypal a legitimate business, would not do business with fraudulent company). Received boots yesterday, guess what, fake boots. Contacted Paypal through e-mail, follow instructions (types in my e-mail, same e-mail they took my money from) and I can’t even get into their web-site. reply says wrong e-mail address and cannot answer e-mails this way. Found out to late web-site registered out of Shanghai, tried to stop shipment but failed. Paypal is just as fraudulent as UGGrain, buyers beware. Where can I report this?

aka uggbootscom.com – I ordered a pair on 12/5 – paid and ave yet to receive anything – I had NO IDEA there were so many fake sites out there…..no contact info on the website – although it said see contact us for a phone number – all theyhad was an e-mail address. The “live chat” was also down and I thought that they were just busy…I e-mailed and got a response in poor english that did not make any sense – signed by “Mke” saying order on its way – you should receive soon. When they gave me the tracking number – it was through a Chinese mail service – that was my first tip-off…..I called pay pal and they told me how to check the authenticity of a site – if you go to uggaustralia.com – you can type in a web site and they will tell you if it is authentic or not – well mine was not so I am out $133.00 and Pay Pal – who is soppossed to be a watch dog of our money can do nothing…Merry Christmas!!! AND I still have not received the boots which I ordered almost 20 days ago!!!!!!
Regarding uggfactoryshop.net: Paid for these boots on 11-25-09. I have yet to recieve them. I got an email from them 5 days after I paid, and theu sent me an email saying they were out of stock, but not to worry because I would get them before Christmas. I wrote back and asked for a tracking number, and got one, but it was not for my purchase. It was for someone in Florida, and I live in New York. Even if I got them and they’re fake, atleast I’d have them to put under the tree. I don’t even know if they were shipped or not. UGG, literally
Regarding uggoutletonline: I bought a pair of UGG cardy boots. One boot fit, the other was so wide it fell off my foot. I dealt with customer service and all they kept telling me, it was normal for this to happen. They refused to exchange the boots or refund my money. The boots are useless to me, they cannot be worn. They offered me $20 and still have not paid me. And yes, they too are from China.
I ordered a pair of Argyle knit Ugg boots from gooduggs.co.uk no confirmation emailed so then of of course i started to smell a rat the next day all these .co.uk sites went down and it was on the telly about fake Ugg’s, i thought id been well and truly “m..ugg..ed” i then raised a dispute with Barclaycard and cancelled my card i was to late in canceling the payment to this company in China.
Ive been very lucky if you can believe it ive just got my latest Barclaycard statement and ive been refunded by the Chinese company this was nothing to do with Barclaycard by the way, ive now cancelled the dispute.

Regarding uggshoppe.us: This is brilliant! Selected the Uggs of my Girlfriends Christmas Present from the uggaustralia site. Somehow by clicking to make payment I have given all of my details to the bogus company???
First I knew I had been duped was checking my credit card statement on line it has a website of http://www.ecpss.com which rang alarm bells. Called the credit card company and has cancelled my card and have had to change all of my log in details and passwords for everything I use online.
I feel such a mugg and I now do not have any Uggs for the better half for Christmas and have lost £81.97.
Skype’d the real company and I have to say how good they have been. Aparently they can take orders direct over Skype but I think I will be buying any future Uggs from the shops.

I am so sad. I just fell prey to a scam at this website uggsforalls.com. When the Paypal went through and I saw it was being paid to “Zhen Chen” I freaked out. I thought I was buying from the real manufacturer UGG Australia.
Little did I know that UGGs were being counterfeited. The next morning at 8am I went to my credit union to report the fraud and they said there was nothing hey could do because the ACH transfer was already initiated and authorized. UGH. So they said when I get the boots (HA!) to send them back and then we can file a dispute. LOL!! I was like IF I even GET boots they are going to be counterfeit and the crooks will be long gone.
I filed a claim with Paypal too, but stupid Paypal gives the crooks until Dec 31 2009— 10 days— to respond. The crooks are going to withdraw the $$ from their account and run. And when Dec 31st comes around, Paypal will rule in my favor but say they can’t refund me my $$ because they didn’t recover any funds. I HATE Paypal. They are NOT out to protect the buyer, that is bullcrap. They allow scammers to get away with robbery by allowing them a 10 day period in which to withdrawal your money. I am just chalking this up to a lesson learned. I will NEVER EVER use Paypal for online shopping.
I am pretending that the $109.00 I lost was a charitable donation to a worthy cause, or it was a really great massage and facial I received, or a really wonderful dinner I had at a very expensive restaurant. That is the only way to not want to crawl in a hole and cry.

I too purchased boots from zumfoot.us and they are not 100% australian uggs as they advertise. I recommend internet shoppers do their homework BEFORE purchasing over the internet. I had no idea that this company was in CHINA. They do not provide a phone # and address on the website and will only communicate via email. Check out uggs official site for tips on how to spot a fake. Fakes will not come from the factory direct in China, fakes will not smell like oil from the factory, fakes will not come in a flimsy box, fakes will not have crooked stiching, and the fur will not be light yellow! The fur will be more of a golden/light brownish color. BEWARE of these companies they are selling fakes as real and are getting top dollar for the fakes!!
Help!!! I ordered 2 pairs of boots from cheapuggs2u.com on 12th December and then found this website. I was gutted that I had fallen for such a con but the website looked almost identical to the official au one. Anyway, I was convinced I would recive nothing but I did receive a parcel only 7 days later. The only trouble was there was only 1 pair, not the 2 I had paid for. I decided to wait in case they had been shipped as 2 seperate parcels but after a few more days I sent a return e-mail to the sender of the 1 I received when I placed my order. I have since sent another 5 e-mails including 3 via the ‘help’ button on their web page. I have had no reply but deep down I am not suprised!! Has anyone successfully received and messages or replies from this retailer?? I wait in hope…

Paypal said “item is not covered by PayPal Buyer Protection. Thus, we are not able to help you at this point.

So if you have been burned please submit a claim to the resolution center. Maybe if enough of us hound them they will stop accepting money for this fake company.

I too was a victim of fraud. I did receive my counterfeit boots and they passed most of the tests. They did have a funny smell to them but looked like the real deal. However they did not fit. Of course there is never a phone # I have e-mailed several times and they said they would credit my credit card in 20-30 days…….I immediately contacted my credit card and have filed a fraud complaint.
Regarding uggaustralian-uk.com: I was also ripped off, I have been emailing the company for 2 months now but they are now imposing loads of costs on me to return the boots! The stiching on them is so bad I cannot even wear them. How can I make a complaint of fraud?

Regarding excellentboots.com: We are having the same problem. We bought the boots for Xmas, size doesn’t fit and they won’t allow us to exchange because it went beyond their seven day return policy. Everyone really needs to pay attention to whom you are buying from and look at their return policy. This has been real disappointing and now can’t afford another pair.

regarding happyuggs.com: My mom used this website to buy me boots for Christmas. Even though they arrived the boots are F-A-K-E!!!!! STAY AWAY!!!!! Look at the Ugg official website (uggaustralia.com) – they also provide a list of things to avoid counterfeit products. My boots had 3 of them – hang tag, canvas bag, and poor stitching. Plus, I have purchased Uggs from the Ugg Store in Chicago and the box was much larger than the one my new pair came in. Plus they said “If a deal seems too good to be true, question it – it usually is” as their rule of thumb. She is currently disputing the charge with her credit card company.

ok so my classic short boots from UGG555.com turned up today…
my boyfriend ordered size 4.5 chestnut classic short, and we were delivered soze 4.5 grey classic short… luckily i like this colour, its very pretty, BUT still not what we ordered… any other time i would b sending them back with an angry letter however after taking nearly a month to arrive in the first place and reading that some people have recieved nothing, i will not bite my nose off to spite my face and stick with these ones…
as for the boots themselves, they were packaged in an original ugg box, with labels and certificates, look and smell barnd new with no holes, wonky stitching or weird smells…
although they have arrived and are 99.9% likely to be BIG FAKES they look nice, fit beautifully and i am happy to have them..
HOWEVER i would STRONGY urge that NOBODY BUYS FROM UGG555 in the future, it seems that it is bit of a lottery as to who gets the right order, who gets something but not the right thing, or who is unlucky enough to receive NOTHING!! i think we have all learned our lesson here and will not think twice about paying £££ in shops for the real thing in the future!!!

Regarding uggonboot.com: Ok so I haven’t seen anyone except one person say anything about the website I ordered from. I ordered from uggonboot.com and I had a feeling after the first 2 days when my tracking code wasn’t sent to me that they were fakes. Emailed them yesterday haven’t heard a thing. Should’ve known when they charged me a extra couple dollars for the shoes once it hit my account. And when I saw the address that processed on my account was not them it was another scam website called DISCOUNTB2C.com. Bad thing about it is that it posted to my account the day I realized it. I am very mad, only thing I can do is laugh about it. I am filing with a claim with my bank and hopefully I get my money back. Would love to get my money back and get their shoes so they can feel as dicked as I do. I’m going to buy the real pair this weekend and if their shoes show up I’m just going to tell them it’s too small send them back and get charged the 15% fee. Changing my credit card information today! Feel really dumb for this but at least I know to not order from the websites I have never heard of. Looks like it happens to the best of us sad to say! I ordered a pair from here on the 7th of December and they have finally arrived this morning, the guy who delivered them said he’s delivering so many at the moment as it seems they’re all getting stuck in customs, hence why they’re taking so long to arrive.
I have to say that although they’re fake they’ve done a very good job with them, the logo, colour and inner of the boots is all perfect and I doubt many will be able to tell they arent authentic, so I’m satisfied

i found this webite (uggfacebook.com) that uses real ugg australia pictures, looks 100% authentic, the boots were £50. when i emailed them, they emailed back and the english was dreadful, they also had a chinese name! so obviously not a legit site. i have just ordered from bootbarn.com, an american site listed on the official ugg australia website as being an authorized online retailer. i found a discount code (XMAS1214) that got me 10% off so cost £123 ($180 and $35 shipping, 10% off – $197 total) i may have to pay import tax but considering all uk retailers (including authorized online sites) sell the tall classic uggs at £190 i think this is a very good deal for REAL uggs!!
I initially began to place an order with ugg.gg and after entering my card details the screen went blank. I then tried to contact customer services to see what had happened and if my order had actually gone through. The contact form on the customer services pages kept timing out and saying website under maintenance and try again later. I then clicked on the U.S version of the site (looked like it was the same company) only to realised after calling America that is a different company, they had no record of my order and said that no order was placed and said to try placing it again. I decided not to bother as it all seemed to much hasstle. Today I have found that ugg.gg have charged my card £66. After speaking with this America company (UGGAUSTRALIA.COM) I decided to try and find some more boots. I found the MADBOOTS.COM website I ordered some of these boots after speaking with their online customer services who assured me that the boots were genuine. After my unfortunate encounter with UGG.GG I decided to google both companies only to find that both are fraudsters. I have an amount pending on my account of £53 from MADBOOTS.COM and my bank say I cant cancel the transaction. I have now cancelled my cards and have sent numerous emails to the company and tried to call the number listed (it is a chinese mobile number that is disconnected). I honestly thought both companies were legitimate and am really angry about this.

I too purchased boots from oneugg.com and have made several attempts to contact them for an exchange in size. I have had no luck so I contacted PayPal and filed a complaint. I feel I have been ripped off and wish for my money back but doubt that will ever happen. If a deal is too good to be true, it probably is!

Received both pairs of boots.,They were late but both pairs look ok and both my partner and daughter think they are good so alls well that ends well. Will be more careful in future. happy new year
