A revolution in style and comfort footwear, the American Hush Puppies shoe brand's launch in 1958 arose when US Wolverine Tannery Co. developed a classic suede Oxford shoe using a new product, tanned pigskin leather. Hush Puppies leapt the pond to the UK a year later and was a sellout. Hush Puppies with continued growth now sell in more than 100 countries. The brand name recalls throwing a hush puppy (a traditional fried cornbread ball) to quieten 'barking dogs', a colloquialism for sore feet. Hush puppies soothing sore feet - get it!
