Reebok, the producer of athletic footwear and related goods, was established in Bolton, United Kingdom, in 1895. It was named Reebok in 1958, an Afrikaans name for a type of African gazelle which a founder found in a dictionary won in a race as a boy! Reebok flourished from 1982 with the Freestyle athletic shoe much loved by aficionados of the newly popular aerobic fitness scene. Soon on the streets as comfort and style casual wear, Reebok became an icon of the 1980s. The hi-top version (including two Velcro traps at the top) had colours including white, black, red, yellow, and blue. Later the Ex-O-Fit one strap low-top/ hi-top came out. Reebok, since 2006 an Adidas subsidiary, still maintains styles with highly competitive edge to this day!
