Set up in 1946 by three New Englanders, Sebago's first shoe, a hand-sewn penny loafer, styled after the popular Indian moccasin, pioneered what would become Sebago's patented welt construction. By 1950 Sebago had developed its breakthrough leather boat shoe and sales were at $1,000,000 per annum. A new Sebago plant was opened in Maine with Sebago celebrating its 1,000,000th pair of shoes and later introducing the beloved Sebago Docksides® boat shoe that eventually came to define the entire boat shoe category. Sebago women's hand-sewn loafer, sponsorship of various sailing teams and races and launch of Sebago's waterproof iconic Drysides soon followed. Sebago is official supplier of yachting footwear to the US Sailing Team.
