Nike to start selling on Amazon

Nike to start selling on Amazon

11 Sep 2017

Next month Nike will start selling a limited range of merchandise on Amazon. One might say they can't resist the power of the largest ecommerce platform. However, the goal here isn't volume, but the ability to control their brand and limit 3rd party sellers.

According to research by Morgan Stanley, Nike is already the #1 clothing brand on Amazon. Their products are sold by unauthorised third party resellers (whom Amazon still profits from). These entrepreneurial sellers buy up large stocks of Nike product to then unload via Amazon.

As part of the deal between Nike and Amazon, Amazon will no longer allow third parties to sell Nike merchandise.

Nike seems to have a broader plan to tighten its grip on their brand, and this deal will be a key part of it.
